Man City and Man Utd have bids rejected for Milan Skriniar

Il Corriere dello Sport has learned that both Manchester rivals have had bids rejected for Inter Milan stopper Milan Skriniar.

The two clubs reportedly offered close to €60 million for the Slovakian centre-back, but saw their proposals turned down.

Even though the Nerazzurri need to raise €40 million by 30th June to avoid FIFA Financial Fair Play sanctions, they have no intention of selling one of their most prized possessions.

Skriniar has largely impressed since joining the club from Sampdoria a year ago, spending every single minute on the pitch in the 2017/2018 Serie A campaign and scoring 8 goals.

The 23-year-old has been linked with quite a few top clubs of late, but he seems happy to remain at Stadio San Siro for the time being.

Hamer swaps Leicester for Huddersfield

Huddersfield Town have secured the signing of goalkeeper Ben Hamer on a free transfer from Leicester City.

The 30-year-old s contract with Leicester expires at the end of the month, giving Huddersfield the opportunity to boost their options in goal.

Hamer made four Premier League appearances in 2017-18 but has struggled to displace Kasper Schmeichel in his time at the King Power Stadium.

I ve spoken with Ben and he arrives here wanting to play Premier League football, which is great for us all, said manager David Wagner.

Jonas Lossl had a fantastic first season at the club and this further competition will bring even more out of everyone, which is ideal for me and the team.

FIFA suspends Brunei for government interference

The Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (BAFA) has been suspended by FIFA for government interference in its affairs, soccer s world governing body said Wednesday.

It started with a decision by the Brunei authorities to dissolve BAFA and to replace it with a new federation in December 2008, FIFA said in a statement.

The suspension, which applies globally, means Brunei and its clubs are unable to take part in international competitions.

One Brunei club, DPMM, currently plays in Singapore s S-League, but will no longer be allowed to do so.

The suspension will only be lifted only when BAFA is reinstated by the government.

FIFA s executive committee, meanwhile, said it was also closely monitoring the situation within a number of other associat…

Lippi: I won’t sign a new contract

Marcello Lippi insists he will not renew his contract before the World Cup finals, prompting speculation over the Italy coach s future.

The Azzurri booked their ticket to South Africa on Saturday with a dramatic draw in the Republic of Ireland.

There is now real confidence in the country that they can become the first team to successfully defend the title since Brazil in 1962.

It is a spectacular turnaround from Italy s disastrous Euro 2008 campaign under Roberto Donadoni and fans are urging the federation to tie Lippi to a long-term deal.

However, the Azzurri boss is adamant he will not be signing anything before next summer.

Why? he said. If then everything goes bad, would I remain just because I had a contract?

Lippi acted similarly …

QPR 1 Swansea City 1: Bony nets late leveller

Wilfried Bony scored a stoppage-time equaliser as 10-man Swansea City earned a 1-1 draw at QPR in the Premier League on Thursday.

The Ivorian, who is set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast following the New Year s Day fixture, came off the bench to net the leveller at the end of a match in which Swansea rarely threatened.

Leroy Fer gave QPR the lead with a thunderous strike in the 20th minute after Rob Green had escaped punishment for a handball outside the penalty area.

The visitors had Wayne Routledge controversially sent off for his reaction to a heavy Karl Henry challenge in the closing stages, but there was still time for Bony  a 71st-minute replacement for Gylfi Sigurdsson to have the final word.

Toulalan not ruling out international return

Malaga midfielder Jeremy Toulalan has hinted that he would like to return to the France squad in the future.

The former Lyon midfielder has been in international exile since the 2010 World Cup after falling out with coach Raymond Domenech and, as a result, the French FA.

However, Toulalan appears to have put his poor experiences with the France set-up behind him, though he insisted he does not mind being overlooked in favour of young talent coming through the ranks.

I have not posed the question of whether I ll return. I left Lyon to forget the episode and it allowed me to live this good experience in Spain, he told Atlantiquefootballclub.com.

I am where I am today. And I m just looking to play well for my club. You think you might (get called up), but …

Pained Salah unable to halt Russia´s unlikely march

Egypt s second-half implosion was still to come but the look of weary frustration painted across Mohamed Salah s face at the interval said it all.

Whatever was to unfold at Krestovsky Stadium – ultimately almost certainly a swift World Cup exit via a chastening 3-1 defeat for his country – Salah would be in no position to influence the outcome.

Having scattered defences across England and Europe throughout a dizzying 2017-18 campaign that yielded 44 goals, here Salah was on the periphery. A powerless, forlorn victim of circumstance.

Since he tumbled to the Kiev turf locked together fatefully with Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos last month, there has been a relentless sense of frenzy around the Premier League Golden Boot winner.

From the consistently…

Difference of not being in Europe ´like night and day´ – Klopp

Jurgen Klopp says juggling domestic and European fixtures is a huge challenge for his rival coaches as the German seeks to mount a Premier League title challenge with a Liverpool team unburdened by involvement in UEFA competition.

Liverpool reached the final of the Europa League in May, going down 3-1 to Sevilla, but failed to qualify for continental action in 2016-17, having finished eighth in the league.

They could well find themselves back in the Champions League next term, with the Reds flying high in third place, despite losing at Bournemouth and drawing with West Ham in their last two outings.

Speaking to Spox.com, Klopp emphasised the difficulties presented by regular midweek matches and associated travel.

It s a difference like day and night, he …

Van Dijk: World-record fee wasn´t a big issue for me

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk insisted his £75million price tag was never an issue after the world-record fee for a defender was broken earlier this month.

Van Dijk made the move from Southampton to Liverpool in January 2018, the huge transfer fee initially raising eyebrows.

But the Netherlands international helped the Premier League giants win the Champions League last season and has emerged as a Ballon d Or contender.

However, the world-record fee was broken after Manchester United paid Leicester City £80m for England centre-back Harry Maguire earlier this month.

Van Dijk, whose side face Chelsea in the UEFA Super Cup in Istanbul on Wednesday, played down the significance of the fees.

It wasn t a big issue for me. It s something you don t ha…
